Message from the President

Moira McCarthy, LICSW, CEAP

National EAPA Conference in Philadelphia, PA

Many of us were fortunate to attend this year's EAPA National Conference held in Philadelphia, PA October 15 – 17, 2005. Over 1,200 people attended from over 20 countries. Many of the workshops and Panel sessions highlighted how much we are indeed an International Professional Association. EAPA now has members in 43 countries: most recently adding China to this impressive list. This summer, John Maynard, CEO of EAPA made a trip to China to collaborate in the expansion of EAP's in that country.

In the Chapter Leadership training and in a District meeting we learned that EAPA will soon be providing an EAP Buyer's guide (that will be available on-line) for our members. This guide will feature information regarding choosing an EAP, how to compare programs and components and services to look for.

Dave Worster, EAPA National Treasurer & Secretary highlighted the many positive gains made this year in making EAPA more fiscally viable. This year National EAPA surpassed revenue goals set, and they will continue this positive trend by trying to increase membership, promote the CEAP credential and expand the value of website services. The new Web Editor: Marina London, was introduced to EAPA members. Copies of the Treasurer's report will be available at our local member meetings, or can be requested from EAPA National.

On the final day of the conference there was a presentation about next year's host city: Nashville, TN, for the EAPA National Conference. The conference will be held at the Gaylord Opryland Resort from October 6 – October 8, 2006, with

pre-conference workshops on October 4 – 5, 2006. Mark your calendars! The Annual Conference is a great way to meet colleagues from all over the world, learn about the topics that are most important to EAP Industry leaders and enjoy the opportunity to celebrate our very important and enriching work.

Sincerely,

Moira McCarthy, LICSW, CEAP, LADC1
